book talking covers

Halfway through reading the Three Musketeers, I've been enjoying it so much I thought I would by myself my own copy.

So these past few nights I've been looking up various versions of The Three Musketeers to find the copy that I enjoy the most. It's a bit silly, but the design of the book is like an added bonus that I love a lot ( Read more... )

I love book covers! (I love books too, so it's all good. :p) I saw this cover early this year and I thought it was quite witty and current. I'm not really a fan but the design was likely intended to make the classics seem more approachable and appealing for the modern generation.

My favourite of the Graphic Classics set is definitely this one:

I like that people have been trying to modernize the old classics covers--it is much better than when they just plaster one of those old 18th century portraits! The Marquis de Sade is also one of my favorites of the set, though I think I'd actually be a bit embarrassed reading it in public with the raunchiness of the imagery. ;;;;

CB-Smith's books are so lovely ahhhhh I would buy them but I haven't read those classics, and the ones I'm familiar with do they seem to be my type of book. OTL Have you seen what she did with the Arabian Nights??

I love book covers! But, er, I don't really have a favourite. I lean toward children's books covers, I suppose. Classic, not the Disney-explosion they're so fond of now. But I really love covers like this, almost like Bickford-Smith's except on a book jacket.

Then, on the other hand, I like really simplistic designs like so.

OH. THIS, EXACTLY. If every book had that kind of cover, I would be overwhelmed by more bookcases than I already own.

lololol to be honest I have been meaning to ask to friend you, but have been too shy about it. friends?! :D

I do like children's books a lot; that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory one is especially great. Don't you hate it when people put the movie posters or actor on the book cover? Another book cover pet peeve that I have!

Pretty Monsters is also pretty. I've been meaning to pick up this book--Shaun Tan, a favorite artist/author did some illustrations for that book (though I don't think he did the cover). I should get on this.

dude, I thought I already had you friended. WHAT.

lol.

I absolutely loathe actors on book covers, not as much if I haven't read the book, but def alot if I have. I'm just glad I haven't seen a HP book with DanRad on it. I would literally break out into tears or hit a sales person with my writing notebook!! It's one reason I didn't read Eragon for forever, even though it was a gift (also because I'm not a huge fan of books that center around boys [I actually resisted HP for forever, too]), because the actor was on the cover and the dragon looked nothing like the dragons I always picture. It ruins the whole thing for me.

I'm a fan of simple, plain hardcovers with pretty jackets, or floppy, easily bent paperbacks. I can't stand really thick paperbacks that you can't bend a little. :/

Pretty Monsters is brilliant. Link also has a free ebook up on her site, her previous book. I've heard it's good, but I haven't checked it out yet - my laptop died before I could read it & I just not remembered it ( ... )

I added you, haha! Friends! :D :D

Even with movie adaptations that I'm not familiar with or interested in I dislike seeing in book covers. I remember seeing the Other Boleyn Girl in Borders and couldn't understand why put those ugly posters as the cover. It seems like a lazy job and I don't see how it would make it sell more. Same thing with Memoirs of a Geisha! I guess what bugs me the most is that movies and books are two different forms of entertainment that shouldn't be sold in similar ways. Even in storytelling, books and movies stray very far from each other. :/

I can just imagine what a horrible move it would have been to put Radcliffe on the Harry Potter books. Wow, I'm glad somebody stopped that from happening. Sometimes I ask my friends to buy me books as presents, but I hastily change my mind because I worry they will get one of these terrible covers! :/ :/

lolol this is ok; I can talk about books and book covers forever, probably.
