They bought it on a whim, on an impromptu road trip into the country. It was love at first sight - the tall white house with the crooked fence on the corner of an empty lot, a huge weeping willow standing guard out front. It was ten miles away from the edge of the city, but they didn’t care. It was theirs.
It took two and a half days to pack up Heechul’s apartment because he wouldn’t let Hankyung touch anything. It took less than a day to pack up Hankyung’s, because they (Heechul) had decided that his creaky bedframe and worn-out couch were not the look they were going for in the new house. They sold his bulky furniture pieces and used some of the money to refurbish the kitchen and buy new shelves for the room Heechul wanted to turn into a library.
They painted the master bedroom in a light silver-blue, the window frame trimmed in white. Their first full day in the house was exhausting, and Heechul had just enough energy to order Hankyung to pull their new mattress up the stairs and into the bedroom. He dropped it in the middle of the floor and dumped a comforter and pillows on top of it, pausing briefly to kick off his shoes and jeans before climbing into the makeshift nest. Heechul curled up against him, and they were asleep in an instant.
It was the sunlight that woke them, bright and early the next morning. It shone through the newly painted window and landed squarely on their tangle of limbs and blankets, warming any exposed skin.
Hankyung wrinkled his nose at the sudden brightness of the room and turned onto his side, burying his face in Heechul’s hair. Heechul covered his face with a pillow and grumbled.
An hour later, Heechul hit him on the shoulder as he shifted around, trying to avoid the sunlight. Hankyung blinked awake in the amber glare of morning, Heechul’s arm heavy across his chest. He turned his head to watch Heechul’s eyelashes flutter against his skin, sleep-tousled hair spread across his face. Hankyung ran his fingers through the light brown locks and smiled.
“So, what now?”
