[Dream 04] When Polka met Frederic

Polka is sitting at her favourite spot in Tenuto; under a tree near the edge of the cliff, that overlooked Ritardando and the sea. She was gazing at Ritardando's lights far below, as she had done before.

As she does this, her mother comes up from behind her and speaks to her, "Polka. There you are. I was wondering where you went when I didn't see you in your room."

Her mother gazes over towards Ritardando, then comments, "Ritardando certainly is beautiful at night."

Polka thinks about this for a moment, then asks her mother, "Do you think so?"

She paused for a moment, and then noted, "Somehow, when I think back on it, I get the feeling it was much more beautiful when I was a little girl."

Her mother responded wisely, "Yes, well things always seem nicer in our memories. It's still just as beautiful. You'll have bad dreams if you stay up too late. Come on. Let's get some sleep."

Polka however, remains seated as her mother leaves to head towards the house.

"Is Ritardando really the same as it's always been? Really?" She asked herself in the darkness.

Afterwards, there was a long pause of silence, before a man's voice responded, "No, it's not. This place used to be much more beautiful."

Polka turns around, her eyes wide open. She hadn't realised someone else had managed to come up here, nor did she hear him.

The man spoke up once again, as the girl stared at him, "You have a heart that sees the world with open eyes, don't you?"

Polka listened, but was slightly afraid about who this person was, so asked in an uneasy voice, "Wh-who are you? And what are you doing out here this late at night?"

The man ignored her question, and continued to speak, "Everything in the world slowly fades with time. It is very difficult to remain still, and keep things exactly as they are in just one particular moment. But because everything shifts only a little bit at a time, no one really notices the change."

Polka then woke up in her room, and sighed.

Did she have that dream because she was worried about Frederic? or was it just to remind her that her world did exist? She wasn't sure.
