Winning Sells... A Random Thought

For some reason a commercial for Hungry Hungry Hippos entered my head today, and it let me to think about board game commercials, specifically from the 80s. Every single board game commercial that I can think out invariably ended with some kid shouting out "I WIN!" at the end. my guess is, the only fun games (in advertising logic) are ones with winners, so fun = winning = fun, so a game that can be won is a game that should be played. That fits in pretty well with the over-testosteroned, win or be forgotten attitude that young boys were nailed with in the 80's.

I recall (perhaps incorrectly) that someone did a study of those same commercials and that, while the groups of kids playing the games were fairly evenly mixed gender-wise, boys won the game a disproportionate amount of the time. [citation needed] but compelling.
