Since you talked to me about him and that zoo three or four years ago, I've thought very fondly of Steve Irwin, and was really a little heartbroken to hear of his death. I really thought he would have gone in a rather mundane way, auto accident or cancer or old age. I hope the "I told you so" people take into account that death by sting ray is rare indeed, and that he was a man who was not taking quite so large a risk in his line of work as he let on. Being an expert means you know where you can push, and you know how to make the easy look much more dangerous. I have a fear of crocodiles, perhaps irrational since I don't encounter them around town, but a man who can thrive in the same environment as such efficient killing machines seems brave and heroic to me.
