Mad Men.
Stan and Peggy go to lunch.
I'll admit it - I really kind-of-almost-love Stan. His character growth was one of the nicer surprises about Season Four, imo. (I also love him and Peggy together - just not, y'know, together. )

They favored seafood-heavy joints on Fridays. )

"It still amazed him how many of those she could put away without feeling the consequences." Yes, this is perfect! How he circles around his fascination and grudging admiration for her. I never thought of the religion connection, and gah you write Catholic guilt & unconventional, melancholic Peggy pairings so well you should just patent it.

thank you so much!
i'm still kind of baffled when it comes to my feelings about stan. he started out as paul kinsey 2.0 (if paul had ever joined a frat), slowly became more tolerable (and hilarious), took a million steps backwards when he decided to attack peggy with his tongue, THEN actually gained my sympathy - because of that heartbroken look on his face when she was called into don's office during the lay-offs. (what can i say, i'm easy.)
since he's an italian-american who seems to have been raised working class, i guessed he'd be catholic, too, which made his masochistic crush on peggy make a lot more sense to me. "i'll just let her yell at me and humiliate me and then she'll realize what a wonderful guy i really am!" yeahhhhh, great plan, dude.
