Author's Notes: EEEEEE~ This was so much fun to write. Seriously, I adore this pairing. It's so amusing.
#01 - Ring
Kairi shrieks as a ring of water shoots upwards next to her, then blinks as she realizes there’s someone in the ring of water, grinning at her with an instrument strapped to his back.
#02 - Hero
“Who’re you?” she asks, stepping back; he holds out his hand with this lopsided kind of grin on his face and says: “I’m here to save you.”
#03 - Memory
Kairi has a lot of memories, likes when Sora left or when Axel refused to leave or when Riku smirked or when Saix snarled, but the one that sticks out the most is the one when she lets Demyx save her and how their hands fit so perfectly together.
#04 - Box
“Okay, I know you hate me right now because I forgot to tell you I was working for a group who wants to hold you hostage, but, it could be worse; we could be sticking you in a box and shipping you off to some foreign world.”
#05 - Run
The first time Kairi tried to run away, Demyx’s water clones dragged her back; the second time, he just sent a stream of water after her and by the third time, he’d taken to tackling her and throwing her over his shoulder, much to her chagrin.
#06 - Hurricane
“So,” Kairi says one day, trying to make casual conversation while they wait for the Black Pearl to dock, “On top of controlling water, can you cause hurricanes too or something?”
#07 - Wings
During one particular in depth conversation, Kairi tells Demyx she’s always wondered what it’s like to have wings and seconds later, water swirls behind her; when she looks in one of the many mirrors randomly placed throughout Wonderland, she smiles: he’s given her water wings.
#08 - Cold
“Demyx, dousing me in water as a practical joke right before teleporting us to the North Pole is not funny!”
#09 - Red
“You know,” Demyx mumbles, playing with her hair while she sleeps, “I’ve never seen someone with hair quite the same color as yours.”
#10 - Drink
“Look at it this way,” Demyx says cheerfully as Kairi grumbles about being stuck with him, “At least if you get thirsty, you know you don’t have to go searching for water.”
#11 - Midnight
“I hate midnight,” Kairi mutters while they sit on the clock tower, “The stars that blink out always seem to blink out a little brighter.”
#12 - Temptation
“C’mon Kairi; you know you want to take a swim, and really, who’s going to find out you went skinning dipping with me?”
#13 - View
“So, how’s it going?” Demyx asks awkwardly, while she sits in the barred cell and glowers; snorting, she kicks one of the metal bars and says: “Oh, it’s great; I especially love the view of the cell across the hall.”
#14 - Music
“I didn’t know you could actually play that thing; I thought it was just for show,” Kairi mumbles as Demyx stops plucking the strings on his Sitar and pouts.
#15 - Silk
“Demyx, what is this?” Kairi says, staring down at the mass of sheets in front of her; Demyx grins that lopsided grin of his at her and shrugs: “Peace offering; chicks dig silk sheets, right?”
#16 - Cover
“Oh goddamn it,” Demyx grumbles as they take cover under a tree as the storm picks up; Kairi giggles into her hand and prods him in the side with a ‘Can’t you divert the rain to the other side of the world, Water-boy?’
#17 - Promise
“Kairi, I solemnly swear to not let anything happen to you,” Demyx says seriously; Kairi blinks and asks what could possibly happen to her in Wonderland, to which Demyx replies with a completely straight face: “The caterpillar raping you and having your inter-species kids.”
#18 - Dream
Kairi doesn’t dream very much while she’s being held hostage in The World That Never Was, but when she does, she dreams of oceans and water and sitars, all of which always lead her right back to Demyx, and Kairi’s really starting to get sick of her dreams ending right before they get to the good part.
#19 - Candle
“Holy shit, Kairi, get behind me; the candle just spoke.”
#20 - Talent
“Wow, you’ve got some real talent there,” Demyx says, bemused, as Kairi attempts to play his Sitar and only succeeds in getting herself doused with water yet again.
#21 - Silence
“You know,” Demyx says offhandedly while they wander through the jungle, “You’re going to have to stop the silent treatment sometime and ask me to help you out of that ditch.”
#22 - Journey
“The journey was long and difficult; the to companions were hopelessly lost, no thanks to the female who said she knew where the hell they we-OW!” Demyx yelps, rubbing the back of his head as Kairi stomps by and throws a ‘Stop narrating before I kill you!’ over her shoulder.
#23 - Fire
“You know,” Kairi starts to say, kicking her feet off the edge of the dock, “You and Axel, despite the fact that you’re completer opposites, what with controlling fire and ice and all, are quite similar; you’re both really annoying.”
#24 - Strength
“I am not a weak, you condescending jerk!” Kairi yells, kicking him in the shin; Demyx swears and hops around on one foot, muttering: “Me, condescending? You obviously didn’t spend enough time with Axel.”
#25 - Mask
“You don’t really care if I run away or not, do you?” Kairi asks one day, while Demyx strolls along beside her, completely out of it and whistling; he glances at her, swings an arm around her shoulder and says: “Of course I care if you run off; I just hide my paranoid thoughts of your hoofing it in the middle of the night behind a mask of cheerful indifference.”
#26 - Ice
“I don’t fight often, you know,” Demyx grumbles when Kairi calls him out on the fact that they tend to hightail it whenever something particularly nasty comes along, “But when I do, I always win; it’s just, I’ve only lost once, to this guy who used ice, and in case you haven’t noticed, I only flee from things that use ice attacks.”
#27 - Fall
“I really hate it when you basically throw me into random portals; I always feel like I’m falling to my death.”
#28 - Forgotten
Kairi doesn’t realize it until a few days after she’s originally captured, but she’d completely forgotten about Sora during the time she’d spent with Demyx; she tries to think more about him and ignore Demyx for a while, until Demyx throws her over his shoulder one day and says they’re going to start bonding again, whether it’s ‘That time of the month’ or not.
#29 - Dance
“Dance, water, dance!” Demyx yells, creating water clones to attack the Heartless charging towards them; Kairi, despite the severity of the situation, can’t help but laugh, because, seriously, what kind of attack phrase is that?
#30 - Body
“My water clones are not male, damn it! Look, they’ve even got boobs!” Demyx points frantically at one of his water clones while Kairi giggles hysterically and nearly falls off the rock she’s sitting on
#31 - Sacred
Kairi always treasured her first kiss; she wanted it to be with someone special, someone she cared about, not someone who lacked a heart who only got it because she tripped over a mass of vines and landed on top of him quite awkwardly.
#32 - Farewells
“Demyx, you idiot! Why’d you have to go and die? I never even got to say goodbye!”
#33 - World
“So, the place I’m taking you is out of this world,” Demyx says, glowering as the flowers start singing again; Kairi blinks and asks if it’s really that awesome; Demyx blinks in response, then snickers and says: “No, it’s actually out of this world. I don’t know where the hell we are, but this sure as hell isn’t our destination. STOP SINGING, DAMN IT.”
#34 - Formal
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Monsieur,” the clock says formally, bowing; Demyx blinks, mutters a ‘what the hell?” and hauls Kairi out of the castle and back the way they came.
#35 - Fever
“This is so ironic,” Kairi mutters, throwing a blanket around a shivering Demyx, “You get sick from the rain, the rain of all things, and I have to take care of you; some captor you are.”
#36 - Laugh
“You know,” Kairi says slowly one day, looking at Demyx carefully, “For someone who appears so carefree and laidback, you sure don’t laugh a lot.”
#37 - Lies
“I can’t believe I trusted you!” She screams, backing away from him as he looks at her almost hurt, “And this whole time, you’ve been lying! You’re not going to save me, you’re going to throw me to a pack of wolves and let them take my heart again!”
#38 - Forever
Demyx scowls and stalks towards her, backing her up against the alley wall and mutters: “You didn’t actually think we were going to jump from world to world like that forever, did you?”
#39 - Overwhelmed
Kairi stares at him, crying and forcing herself not to scream at him; she thought he would take her home, take her to Sora take her somewhere other than where he’d taken her, but he hadn’t because he’d lied and it was all too much to take, so Kairi did the only thing she could think of, standing there in the rain with him right in front of her: she kissed him.
#40 - Whisper
“Are you trying to stall, Kairi?” Demyx whispers when s eh pulls back, with this somewhat hesitant smile on his face; “Because if you are, I’ll have you know it’s working.”
#41 - Wait
“Look, I need to go scope out the area and maybe try to figure out why the hell I can’t get us to our destination whenever I teleport; stay here alright?” Demyx says, staring down the singing crustacean in front of them; Kairi nods and swims over to a rock, still trying to get used to the fact that she had a fin, not legs, and smiles at him a little; “I’ll wait.”
#42 - Talk
“Sora, did you…uhm, did you ever have to fight someone named Demyx?” Kairi asks when they get home to their island and sit on the sand; Sora shrugs and gives her a slightly exasperated look, “Kairi, it’s not like I ask their names before I fight them, so I really don’t know.”
#43 - Search
“So,” Kairi begins, staring down the hole in the ground, “You go searching for a way out of this field of flowers and decide that a hole in the ground is an exit?” Demyx nods enthusiastically and chirps out a ‘Yup!’ before shoving her into the hoe and jumping in after her.
#44 - Hope
“I hope he’s okay,” Kairi mutters and when Saix says Sora is fine with that sneer on his face, Kairi feels a pain of guilt, because it wasn’t Sora she was worrying about, even though maybe she should’ve been.
#45 - Eclipse
“Holy crap, why did we just get plunged into eternal darkness as if it’s an eclipse?” Kairi asks, panicking slightly; Demyx rolls his eyes, steps two feet away, flicks a switch and says: “Maybe because the lights weren’t on.”
#46 - Gravity
“Xigbar defies gravity you know,” Demyx brags, poking at his food with his fork, “It’s pretty cool, except when he creeps along the ceiling then drops down in front of me and gives me a heart attack from hell; and don’t say I can’t have a heart attack,” he glares at her lightly, waving his fork around threateningly, “Because we do.”
#47 - Highway
Kairi always knew she was bossy; it was either her way, or the highway; it was just a shame Demyx was the same way, because it was incredibly difficult to defy someone and convince them you were right when they could drown you while you were on land and all you could do was bite them and kick them in the shins.
#48 - Unknown
“Off into the unknown we go!” Demyx exclaims cheerfully, grabbing Kairi’s hand and dragging her into a cavern; they run out seconds later as a three headed dog stomps after them, howling, while Demyx yells things like “Shit!”, “I hate guard dogs!” and “Good God, I thought I’d left that thing in hell!”.
#49 - Lock
Demyx really didn’t mind being caught in the middle of a lip-lock with his supposed hostage by Luxord; it was actually quite hilarious to see the expression on his face, that is, until he suggested telling the Superior they’d need their own private bedroom.
#50 - Breathe
Even though Demyx could’ve drowned her at any moment, at any time, for any reason, throughout their whole adventure, Kairi had never once felt that she needed to hold her breath around him.
