*he* spelled it wrong...I'm just doing the quoting.
KF is such a dumbass. I get pissy about all of these KF "my governor is a jewish cowboy" craptacular bumper stickers you see floating around. It's sad that there aren't a lot of good options this election. Maybe people feel forced to go with the comedian fried-on-drugs womanzier because there's just. no one. else.
Friedman's hilarious, something of a maverick (and I think you'd appreciate his views on a lot of other subjects if not this one), and in the end he hasn't got a chance (isn't Perry a virtual lock?). Much as he may "talk the Texan talk" a serious politician would be talking about the erosion of individual liberty rather than whether it's "unnatural," "wussy," etc.
Still, just by entering the race and putting his commentary in the headlines, he could be another Steven Colbert with the power of satire. The political system could use a shakeup...
No. He should stick to being an author. He's good at that.
by entering the race, really all he's doing is splintering the vote. that's the only "shaking up" I see. If no one takes him seriously, what's the point?
Splintering what vote? I hate that argument. People don't "owe" candidates from either major party their vote. If the Republicans and Democrats can't put up a decent candidate, what's wrong with voting for an Independent, Green, Libertarian, etc? Besides even if you do believe that, look at the major polls. Even if 100% of Friedman's voters switched to Bell, it wouldn't be enough to overtake Perry's lead. And that's even with Strayhorn as an option, "splintering" the Republican vote. (though admittedly, I'm surprised that Texas doesn't have runoff elections
( ... )
KF is giving nothing more than lip service to all of those issues. Do you honestly think that if by some miracle he was elected, that he would actually be able to do anything about any of it? please. The legislature would shut his ass down in a jewish new york minute.
no respecting Republican thinks of strayhorn as a republican, even when she was a republican.
there's nothing wrong with voting for whoever you want--I'm all for your right to do it. But I personally see no value in KF as a candidate since it's clear it is a joke, and further, though I respect others' right to vote for him, I can still be irritated that he will indeed take votes away from my candidate.
If Strayhorn had had the balls to run against Perry in the Republican primary, I would have voted for her. As it is, the Texas Governor does relatively little, and I'm sick of the Texas Dems being so pansy-assed and moribund, and since there's no run off and since Kinky's the most refreshing thing to happen to a Texas campaign in a long time, I'm voting for him.
