Gym update and ideas to make protein powder not taste like ass

Finally. People are noticing! Twice this week people have asked me if I have been working out. One person said I looked really healthy (YAY!). The other person’s comments made me pause a little. He said I looked athletic and that my body was “transforming.” I don’t think I want to transform, per se. Is “athletic” what I’m going for? Perhaps I am ( Read more... )

L mixes the paste into yogurt and soy milk. I've never been tempted to taste it, though, so you'd have to ask her how well that works out for her.

yeah, see, that just sounds nasty to me. Ugh. I may have to switch to Carnation Instant Breakfast. heh. If you had like three of those, it would equal out I bet.

So, it's a small miracle that I'm adding protein powder to anything at all, since how indescribably sick of it I got when I had to live off of it following nasty bike wreck ( ... )

you can mix it in with flour, pancake mix, and such...in smaller quantities. Other than that, really need a blender...the stuff is pretty nasty otherwise.

I usually go with the vanilla myself as it helps the taste a little bit...usually an after workout smoothie or something with some OJ or milk, bananna, frozen blueberries, strawberries, whatever you like, a little vanilla extract, and to start, no more than half a serving of the powder...take a bit of time and get used to the change in texture.

If it's gritty, get something finer ground. If it helps, I use Now Sports Whey Protein Natural Vanilla Flavor right now.

If I get a cheap ass blender, like the $10 kind, will that be adequate to make a smoothie with the frozen berries?

Yeah, little berries are generally no problem. Strawberries and such...just toss them in the microwave for half a min or so to soften them up.

UGH, protein powder. I manage to make it somewhat better by adding it to vanilla soy milk, but there is just nothing that seems to get rid of the gritty. GAG. Ive heard some people use juice too.

what's with the soy milk? Is that better for you than regular milk?

it's less fat and soy is good for you anyway with antioxidants and stuff. I use soy milk because too much milk makes my tummy hurt.

I recommend a blender you can buy at Target for like 15$ that basically uses the blender body as like an upside down cup. You like, turn it over and unscrew the top to drink. It's less stuff to clean up than a regular blender, where the bottom disassembles into a dozen pieces and whatnot.

Then, you can mix with yogurt & a banana & apple juice and honey & frozen blueberries to make a super muscle shake, for after you're done blasting your guns.
