I think when they say "middle class" a lot of politicians are actually counting the working class in that. I think for most, anything below middle class is considered poverty level, even homeless level. I don't know WHY they don't ever seem to mention that class too. John Edwards certainly does, and he makes that he personal crusade. I suspect most politicians, when they say "middle class", actually mean anyone who is not upper class.
