Something has finally happened.

Praise the advertising Gods! Today, I had a meeting with Bob Heron, the CD at Y&R Geneva (the 3rd person I've met there). He reviewed my book, liked it, and offered me an internship. I can start ASAP. Basically, WPP is on this giant insane freeze where they can't pay to hire anyone...not full-timers, not freelancers, not nobody not nohow. Which (he ( Read more... )

Aww I wanna celebrate with yooooouuu! Wish we could do a happy dance and then hit The Library for some pool, good tunes, silliness, and merry times :) I'm hoping something will come of this in a few months even though WPP has officially thrown a big giant wet blanket over the ad industry. How is BSSP faring in this mess?

I've been enjoying reading your adventures and silently rooting for you in your search, but wanted to chime in here and say that I'm really happy to hear your good news. As a fellow jobhunter, I know how disheartening a process it is, and so I'm thrilled that things are starting to look up for you!

aw that's really sweet, Becky. Thanks for sending good thoughts my way :) I totally empathize with your job hunt (obviously)...this economy is not very new-graduate-friendly. But life always seems to have a way of working itself out, ya know? Good luck to you!

Yeay! That's great news! Even if it's not financially comping it's still a foot in the door AND something productive to do all day. If anything it'll help build your portfolio and put you in touch with even more international ad players. You'll have to bust your ass but I know you'll make yourself invaluable to the company. Message me if you ever want help scheming on how to get in with the higher ups!

Yeah, I'm thinking of it as an investment in the future. They sound like they want to hire me ASAP and at the moment have their hands tied. My impression is they wanted to scoop me up somehow before I get caught up in some crap job elsewhere just for the sake of a measly salary. Trust me--I've done pretty of schmoozing with the higher-ups thus far! haha.

Hooray!!! Man, everyone I know is getting into schools/jobs this week. Please continue right on over my way, wave of good luck... How long is the commute to Geneva?

haha. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come all around. After all, if bad things come in threes...maybe good things come in...tens? The commute takes about an hour TOTAL. That's from exiting my apt door, walking to the subway station, subwaying to the train station, getting on the train , riding the 30 minutes to Geneva, and walking the few blocks to the agency. It's a little bit of a commute, but really...I had no hope of finding this great of a gig in Lausanne, which really is more of a large village than a bustling city.
