You know what I hate? When people TRY to compare Twilight to Harry Potter, when it is clearly, significantly unsubstantial to Harry Potter and incomparable in every sense. And the only reason people do that is because the Twilight movie took Harry Potter's original release date. If Warner Bros. hadn't moved the HP release date to July, then all this Twilight vs. Harry Potter nonsense would've never happened. Nobody even knew what Twilight was before this year! Another reason is because dearest Robert Pattinson was in both movies. Well he was also in Vanity Fair. No one ever went and compared Harry Potter to Vanity Fair did they? And a sentence like this deserves a beating on the head with something very large and very heavy:
"Twilight is better than Harry Potter because the guy that plays Edward is hotter in this movie."
What's so wrong about this sentence? It's because a sentence like this is mostly said by a squealing fangirl who probably hasn't read either of the series, and is purely basing her opinion off the movies and not the actual book series. Ok, you can think that the Twilight movie is better than the Harry Potter ones... but don't come up to me and try to tell me that Twilight is better than HP when you haven't read any of the books... because I can tell you right now that you are completely, and utterly wrong!
I'm not saying Twilight sucks (in fact, the series is on my list of books to read), nor am I saying you should stop liking Twilight. You can love it in all its vampire glory and have posters of Edward Cullen pasted all over your walls. I'm just tired of the shrieking pre-hormonal teenage girls (some in their early 20s) who say Twilight is better than Harry Potter. They say it to Potter fans too. What, are you TRYING to piss us off? What do you expect out of it?
And for the love of God, stop saying Robert Pattinson looks better in Twilight than in Harry Potter. It doesn't matter!! It's also a pitiful argument!!
(For the record, I think the only movie he ever looked good in was HP)
Bottom line: Twilight fanbase, leave the Harry Potter-ers alone. We don't like to be bothered by frivolous fangirling.
The other bottom line: You could start up a debate about HP vs. LOTR and that would be totally fine because LOTR is pretty epic. In fact, one may argue that HP is unsubstantial to LOTR!... and that is perfectly fine. And maybe you can argue that perhaps we're in need of a new epic fantasy series. But one year after Harry Potter isn't enough time to start that up. For now, Twilight will never reach the hype and craze that Harry Potter has. The HP craze hasn't even had a moment to simmer down yet!
Bottom line below the bottom lines: Yes, I am bitter that I didn't get my year's worth of Harry Potter this year. Beedle the Bard only did so much... 100-some pages set in large text and leading, and huge margins just isn't the same.
The disclaimer: If in case you didn't understand my rant, it is directed towards the silly Twilight fangirls (who never read the books and only watched the movie) who try to start up a debate with die-hard HP fans about which series is better.
