Thanks so much. It's a lot of fun trying to track how the changes effect the characters. I'm so glad you like where they've ended up.

Poor Xander. A lot of people are going to be really upset with him when they realize he's not told them the most important part of what the monk said.

So, Ethan's actually being useful. In a nasty, cruel way, yes, but he does come up with some good ideas. I'm actually beginning to hope that Giles gives in and gets back together with him. Although, I'm not sure if it would work in the long run. Ethan isn't the sort of person who can live a quiet and peaceful life. Sooner or later, he will be back to causing chaos.

Are you making Joyce's illness mystical in origin? I've seen some different explanations for it. Some authors blame the monks' spell, some blame the Initiative and some say it was a natural illness. If you make it the monks' fault, that's really going to cause problems between Buffy and Dawn.

It is hard to see Ethan and Giles in a forever-after kind of way, but I think they could have a lot of fun in the short term.

It really is good that Xander thinks these things through, because when people get ticked off at him, he has a good explanation for his actions.

More on Joyce tomorrow. *looks mysterious*

Lots of good stuff going on in this chapter!

Of course Spike knows that Xander is holding something back (I liked the way Spike appreciated the difference between that and lying!) I also like that Spike is going to give his boy a couple of days to work things out in his head before pressing the issue.

Good for Xander going to see Mr Okolo - it's a logical move to use all the resources at his disposal.

Buffy is as paranoid about something supernatual hurting her mom as she was in canon, and here it makes sense.

Love, love your Ethan. “You know, it’s only in films that the heroine can accomplish something just because she tries hard enough,” Ethan pointed out scathingly. “You have no more chance of successfully performing that spell than your average housecat does.” That just made my laugh like crazy.

Realy good stuff, love. Really looking forward to tomorrow's chapter.

I must admit, I always wondered how canon could spend all that time building up this "legendary sorcerer" and then have Buffy just do the spell sucessfully with no trouble at all. Either its an easy spell or its not. Grrr for illogic. So I borrowed Tara, who at least is a trained witch. I love having Ethan around - he can slap sense into people better than anyone but Spike.

I feel for Xander. He's still struggling with the implications of Dawn but at least he was wise enough to seek out more info. And I loved that Spike knows Xander well enough to know that Xander is hiding something but is content to wait before plodding him for answers. At least yet.

And I like Ethan contributing to the discussion in his own snarky way.

Also, I think the idea of Tara during Cloutier makes more sense than Buffy.

The whole "Dawn isn't real" thing does take a lot of absorbing. Xander's still in full freak-out mode but he knows enough to sit tight and think things through before doing something irrevocable.

I'm glad you like Tara doing the spell. I always thought it was ridiculous that she could just do a really complicated spell when she has no magical talent or experience. So, I changed it. *g*
