Super fight scene and so satisfying to see Sgt Morgan really understanding how it would affect Spike and Xander's relationship if Spike had killed Ben.
Love the end lines - Spike has come a long way since he fell in love with his boy, but he's still got an ego the size of Texas *g*
The brutal fight was vividly drawn and very exciting. I was worried when the gang split up and Glory showed no sign of flagging energy. I thought she had been toying with the super powered group in order to separate them from the key, planning to follow Xander and the rest and kidnap them all.
Thank goodness Tara and Ethan managed to get that spell up and running, weakening the hell god enough for Spike, Buffy and the rest to get a little damage in, making Ben rise to the surface. Buffy's inability to harm the man was in character, but I'm glad that the duty went to someone outside their circle this time around. Who knows how Xander would have reacted if Spike went against his word and killed Ben. We never have to find out. Until the next time!
You've really taken Joss' world and made one of your own on the framework.
I can't stop imagining what would happen if these characters ever met their canon counterparts. Or...some sort of swap. Like the dream I had, remember the dream I mentioned? Yeah, I keep thinking about that. Because all the differences are so...obvious to me.
I have this horrible feeling that watching season 5 will be an exercise in the study of Fridge logic for me after reading your version. Which might be ether fun or painful, I can't decide and won't know 'till I get there.
I suspect canon Xander would be horrified to find himself in a relationship with Spike. They may have reached a truce, but Xander never really trusted Spike. More's the pity.
