I just spent about an hour giggling over watching the first episode of Merlin. And yes, the episode was only three quarters of an hour, but I had to rewatch bits so I could laugh at them some more*.
And I was not watching it for the slash. I was going to be watching it for the slash, but no - I found myself watching it for Merlin's irrepressible

Merlin positively enjoyed being put in the stocks and pelted with vegetables, and then Gaius offered him more vegetables with his dinner and...
...and Uther rewarded - rewarded Merlin by making him Arthur's manservant (cue wild enthusiasm from both parties :P) and I CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH MORE OF IT!!!

Show where Merlin and Arthur are the same age and Arthur is a prat and Merlin calls Arthur a prat and the Great Slash Dragon tells him their destinies are intertwined? YES!

It is so fantastically dire, the spluttering dies about 2 minutes in, to be replaced by giggling over every slash-filled nuance of the script.

Put that together with the fact it was aired in the UK in the 'primetime family TV' slot and it's just unbelieveable how much they got away with!
