Pairing: young!Billie/Mike

A/N: I finally got around to reading the comments left on the last part of BLM (thank you all for those, by the way, they were lovely) and decided that maybe, just maybe, it was time to post something new.

Billie’s walking along the edge of the worn down roof that covers his garage. His arms, sticking straight out, providing balance for the walk that makes his stomach turn. His eyes sparkle as delicate lines appear around them, a smile sliding across his face. His fingers brush up against Mike’s, the barely there touch spreading sparks through both boys bodies.

Mike widens his own eyes, moving back the slightest bit as he tries to slow his beating heart. This is all so new and frightening to him, to both of them, the electric feel that comes from casual touches and stares that linger much too long. He notices the slight droop in Billie’s smile and shrugs his shoulders. He mumbles something along the lines of, don’t wanna fall, and offers Billie an apology in the form of a smile.

Billie just laughs. Throws his head back and laughs, loud enough to get the dog across the street to begin barking as though his life depends on it. The laughter comes to an abrupt stop when Billie’s left foot slips on a loose shingle, his arms flailing in an attempt to grab onto something, anything.

Mike’s mind goes blank for a few moments, capturing nothing more then the fact that Billie Joe is close to fucking falling. He doesn’t know what happened, or when it happened, but when his mind decides to work again he finds himself holding his best friend. All too tightly against his chest.

Billie’s shaking. First with fear and then with relieved laughter as his friend’s arms tighten around his small frame. He assures him that he’s fine, you caught me, Mikey, it’s okay. He freezes when he feels Mike’s lips press against the top of his head, his heart racing in an entirely different fashion as his own arms squeeze the other boy.

Mike’s murmuring words into Billie’s ear, you fucking scared me, so bad, and his hands are spreading across the small of Billie’s back. They’re pressed so close together, so fucking close, that Billie can feel Mike’s heart beating against his chest. The erratic rhythm filling in the spaces when his own heart skips a beat or two. Mike’s feeling it too and he wants nothing more than to hold this moment in his mind forever.

And then, Billie leans his head backwards and looks up into Mike’s eyes and Mike decides that this is the moment he wants in his mind forever. Green staring into blue as they hold each other on top of Billie’s sun-heated roof. There are people driving by and an elderly couple walking their golden retriever. The dog across the street starts to bark again when the retriever walks by and Billie cracks a smile. He looks at Mike and softly tells him, remind me to never get a fucking dog. Except, he’s lying. Because he loves dogs. But the way that Mike smiles makes up for the lie.

The owner of the dog, a woman in her mid-thirties, walks out of her house and instantly yells across the street. Something about how they’re going to destroy the roof and that they’re teaching her children that they too can walk across the edge of the roof. She ends by telling them that they should also let go of each other because she doesn’t need her kids seeing any sort of gay things happening on their street.

Billie raises an eyebrow at the last statement and nearly bites his tongue in half as he feels Mike’s lips press up against his own. Of course, it would be hard to bite his tongue in half with Mike’s sliding up against it. He lets his eyes flutter shut and closes his ears to the woman’s disgusted cries of protest. He can faintly hear his sister, when did she get back home, cheering from the driveway. She yells out something like, it’s about fucking time, before giving the two of them a wide smile and walking into the house.

The woman across the street gives them one last yell, telling them to get off of that roof before her children see, and vanishes back inside her house. Billie hardly notices for the fact that the only thing he can focus on is Mike’s lips against his own and the other boy’s hands sliding up underneath his shirt.

Billie sighs into the other boy’s mouth, relaxing his body against Mike’s. He shrieks and bites down, hard, on Mike’s lower lip as he feels his feet start to slip again. Mike pulls away, one hand flying to his mouth and the other grasping tightly to Billie’s hip. He swears, Jesus fucking Christ, and runs his tongue across his bleeding lip. He kisses the side of Billie’s head and tells him that, we need to get off the fucking roof, before taking his hand and helping him towards the ladder that allowed them to get up there in the first place.

Mike goes down first, waiting at the bottom to grab onto his best friend’s hand the moment his feet touch the ground. Billie tilts his head backwards and smiles, hand squeezing Mike’s tightly. He tells him to wait out here, I’ll be right back, and disappears inside the house.

He’s smiling when he walks back out and goes straight up to Mike, grasping onto the taller boy’s hand. He leans against Mike’s body and tells him, told my mom we’re going for a walk. He tightens his grasp and smiles, so we’re going for a fucking walk. He leads the way, fingers laced tightly with Mike’s, as they wander down the seemingly empty street.

Mike is smiling, wide as fuck, on the inside as he silently stares at their joined hands. He had kissed his best friend as a way to piss off his god awful neighbour, and because he’s wanted to for awhile now, not expecting anything more than a laugh from Billie Joe. He hadn’t excepted Billie to respond and he hadn’t expected the words that his best friend’s sister had yelled. Not so say that he was complaining. If you asked Mike, and made him promise to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, he would admit to having a bit of a crush on the dark-haired boy. But just a little one.

So when Billie Joe turns towards him and grins, wide as hell, he can’t help but lean forward and kiss him one more time. He smiles and breaks the kiss, choosing instead to rest his forehead up against the smaller boy’s. He kisses him two more times before whispering something along the lines of, your neighbour’s watching through her curtains, and listens to Billie’s laugh. He adds, could care less, and kisses Billie’s forehead before promising, one day we’ll be so fucking huge that no one will give a shit and I’ll kiss you in front of thousands and no one will fucking care.

And Billie smiles and kisses the corner of his mouth. Together they flip off the woman, blatantly glaring through her front window, and laugh as their hands come together and the woman pulls a horrified face. Billie leans against Mike and sighs a happy sigh because, whether or not that day comes doesn't really matter, Billie has Mike standing next to him, holding his hand, and that's all that matters.
