Letting the secret slip

A few months ago, I was hiking in the Alps with a friend who's from the East Coast. One afternoon, we walked off the trail, springing up and down on a thick layer of moss under a canopy of green.

Him: "This is amazing!"
Me: "This reminds me a lot of Oregon."
Him: "Wow, really? I've got to move to Oregon!"
Me (thinking): damnit

Been there myself...

Here in Texas, I make sure to counterbalance any unintentionally glowing descriptions of my Oregonian homeland with "Well, it rains for 8 months on end... day in and day out. And you wouldn't believe the pollen count!" That usually works ;)
