There's a large possibility I may be moving to Brookings.

I'm from a growing city in Southern California and I've been told that Brookings is more of a small beach town with a lot of older people.

One, it that true?; and two, where is the nearest shopping/city area?

I kind of dread asking this question because it sounds so dumb and kind of superficial ( Read more... )

oh man...that's WAY out there in the middle of nowhere. I probably drove through when traveling along the coast but dont recall it at all.

You may try the much larger damnportlanders community - they are a snarky bunch but if you take that with a grain of salt you might get someone who has actually got memories of anything in that area.

I don't have any personal experiance there, but you may want to check out their website. It looks like they have relocation information that might help you.

I was born and raised in Brookings, so I can tell you just about everything you need to know about it. :)

It is a small beach town, but I wouldn't say the elderly make up any greater percentage of the population than they would in most communities.

As far as shopping goes, you can get all of your basic needs right there in town. For malls, the nearest is probably Medford or Eureka, both of which are 2-hour drives. Not going to lie; Brookings is pretty isolated, but it's worth it. There are plenty of non-mall retail opportunities, if that's what you're looking for in work. I know some of the banks and coffee joints are hiring right now, too.

Some people might say it's boring, but it's only boring if you have no imagination, haha. I LOVE living there. The land is beautiful, the people are friendly, they have good medical care, and the cost of living is peanuts compared to what I have to do to make by where I live now in Arizona. If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to handle them. :)
