There was also some woman that was helping the Cuban rebels in some small way. Hearst made a big deal out of it, sent his reporter to Cuba and when it looked like he wasn't going to get an interview, wired enough money to the reporter to bribe the guards and get her out of her minimum security prison so he could ship her to America and have a big celebration of her release.

And then forgot about her because she was boring out of jail.
