Okay, I knew that episode would be upsetting, but I AM REALLY REALLY UPSET.
OH THEON
OH THEON WHY'D YOU DO IT
OH THAT WAS SO MUCH WORSE THAN IN THE BOOK
OH RODRIK
OH THEON
OH MY HEAAAAAAAAAART
That was just... really, really, really awful. Oh man, that was hard to watch. And then later Roose Bolton offering up HIS BASTARD SON to go get him - Matt and I in tandem went OH, FUCK. Because OH, HELL that's going to be awful. But I guess it means we do get Reek after all, so at least they're not doing away with the completely. But... oh god, oh god, that's going to be so hard.
And everything else - oh, dear. Oh Arya. (Also, dyslexic!Jaime? That's new.) Actually, there's so much of "huh, that's new" in this episode that it's hard to single out any one thing specifically. Except, slaughter in Qarth? Dragons getting stolen? IRRI DYING? EHHH??? That was also upsetting. I'm also sad Amory Lorch won't get eaten by a bear. But the speedy darts of death were pretty amazing too, so I'm down with that one. I'm also wondering when the hell "Talisa" will be revealed as Jeyne. Hroom. BUT THE RIOT WAS AMAZING HOLY SHIT. WOW. TYRION SMACKING JOFF WAS AMAZING. SANSA MY POOR SWEET BABY. SANDOR CLEGANE YOU ARE AWESOME. THANK YOU FOR BEING BIG AND TERRIFYING. And I am really glad he called Sansa "little bird," because yay.
Anyway, I dunno. It was a great episode, but they're changing things around a whole lot - Matt flung out the idea that the ending was done that way JUST to fuck with book readers - and things are starting to get a whole lot more upsetting now. I guess we're going to get a major death an episode now - *wibble* - though I suppose that really started last week with poor Renly, ha - so we'll see how that goes. In any case, off to read AV Club reviews...
