Moderates rock! :) Sadly, Moderates are far too few these days. People who think for themselves, actually weigh the issues and then decide what they feel is best are rare, indeed

Karen, don't even think for a second that those two groups accurately represent their ideologies (well, except for the liberals . . . they're so humanistic and postmodern as an ideology that it's scary!). We American Conservatives are hardly that bad, no matter how badly the left wants to smear us just b/c we believe that not all things are relative, and actually believe in absolute right & wrong, etc.
I'd fathom to say that most conservatives are like me: conservative moderates. And more than a few (including myself) are the new type of conservative: compassionate conservative, in that we have compassion towards those in need, but we believe in traditional family, moral, and ethical values.
I'd go on, but I should still be in bed at the moment.
Yes, I did get the sense that those conservatives were of the military enclave in the backwoods variety. I just had visions of them mowing down ranks of liberals with assault weapons. >_<
Personally, I think the best sort of political philosophy is one that marries the moral firmness of conservatism with the compassion and respect of liberalism.
The liberal LJ community is hardly representitive of liberal thinking, it's also so grossly plagued by conservative trolls that I dropped out of it in sheer irritation, why piss myself off at some narrow minded, moronic, misogynist, racist, homophobic creeps
