Magpies like the shiny!

Meme snagged from furiosity: Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.

My three things are: Harry/Draco, American Idol and NOOP DOGG! (Yes, the exclamation point is entirely necessary. Harry/Draco. The only one of my OTPs that I’ve consistently loved and sought out - and I am a fickle creature, so that’s saying something. I remember thinking, somewhere along the way, that Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy were so obviously gay for one another, and feeling ridiculously pleased and vindicated when I discovered H/D fandom.

I love the pairing: I can’t help but see lots of UST under that schoolboy rivalry. I love the fact that you can twist and turn canon to make it fit: there isn’t any fun for me in pairings that are just completely out there, mostly because fic for it is likely to have to rewrite basic points of the series entirely. More than anything, though, I love the fandom: I am consistently delighted by the number of shiny, beautiful fics I have found and the general coolness of the people. I wish any of my other pairings had even a tiny percentage of its awesomesauce.

American Idol. One word: Simon Cowell. (Okay, that’s two words. STFU.) I admit to being a reality show junkie: I’ve watched them all at one point or another, and I still watch lots of them occasionally. No matter how tired I get of the formula, though, I just keep watching AI. The trainwrecks! The (staged) drama! Ryan Seacrest, who I have a guilty fondness for! And more importantly, people who are worse singers than me. I didn’t realise they existed before Idol came along. XD

Really, though, I think - like most people - I just enjoy having someone to root for. Sometimes I take it to extremes. Last year, I actually voted for David Cook (I am not in the US), not just because I thought he was great but because I wanted to help stick it to David Archuleta’s insane fans. The year Constantine got voted off early, I plumbed the depths of patheticness on the internets and signed an online petition. (In my defense, I was young, I did not realise he was a creepy asshat!) In summary: I love American Idol because it gives me an excuse to be completely, unashamedly lame. NOOP DOGG! It is hard to explain this in words, so instead I made a picture essay. *ahem*
