I'm about a 90% organic gardener. I use neither chemical fertilizers or pesticides on anything I grow, and buy organic plants when I can, including certified disease free organic seed potatoes. Do you have a local farmer's market? Because I just buy a pound of organic garlic from one of the farmers there. It costs me $7 or so and get like 100 heads of garlic out of the deal. Plus, they have GREAT varieties, which is a big bonus. Seems like a good deal to me.

Elemental sulfur is an organic approved material for soil acidification. No big deal either way, but I figured I'd throw it out there in case you're interested in organic options.

This was my thought, find the local farmers market OR see if there is a local garlic festival. I have both and know the guygs growing garlic will later sell some seed garlic, but at the garlic festival in the fall there are MANY places that you can buy or order from.

I don't even get seed garlic, I just make sure that the farmers in question haven't had any problems with fungus or diseases in their fields. It's been working very well for me for several years now.

This works too. My thought was most that if you go to FM regularly and know the farmers that grow garlic many of them buy a surplus for planting and are willing to give little packets to regular customers for much lower price.
