Gotta give it up for the B negs out there

Yesterday I gave blood. It was a very blood oriented day in general now that I think about it. I went over blood typing in two of my classes and then actually had it removed from my body. I had a long break between my classes and they had a blood drive at school so I figured what the hell. I've got a pretty rare blood type so I feel it's my ( Read more... )

It's not that risky and you helped your fellow man. Thanks for the transfusion!

I am actually really interested in platlet donation (if that's what you're talking about). There's a center near your office in Dunwoody and also one off Monroe. I can't remember if Brian was interested too, but you can donate platelets pretty often. I'll do it soon and tell you how it is. If it's fun, we'll get together regularly like we used to do for trivia.

Actually this was donating red blood cells only. There is a 120-150 day waiting period for doing it (longer than the usual blood donation). A guy I used to work with at All Star Pizza used to donate platlets every two weeks. He said you get paid to do it even. Something to the tune of $50 per donation, though he could have been wrong, full of shit, this might have changed, or it wasn't with the Red Cross.

If you donate platlets you can come into Frogs and eat for free!! There is a little girl in my owner's preschool who's got lukemeia so he started the plates for platlets program to help her. People don't donate platlets as much and they're alot more helpful than blood. Not that people should stop donating blood.

way to go!

Donating blood is a great thing to do, I always have heard that you help save 3 other people's lives when you donate blood.

I am upset because I have a few years before I can donate again, as apparently my blood is now a toxic and radioactive sludge that has been exposed to far to many bugs in the 3rd world.

but good work.

I used to donate regularly as well...but similar to Andy, the 5 months I spent in England made my blood unacceptable to the American Red Cross. Apparantly they don't yet have a test for Mad Cow Disease and they'd prefer if I don't donate until they have that test.

But I agree with you, it's fun to fill that little bag with the vital fluids coming from my arm. I used to see it as a race with the other people around me.

When Vin Diesel donates blood he declines the syringe, instead asking for a handgun and a bucket.

wierdly enough, they used to ask if you had been to southwest asia, but last time I went (which was probably a good 2 years ago) they were asking about western Europe.

Did all the bad bugs in Asia just go away?

Or did they migrate to Europe?

Yeah I thought that was odd that they asked about the UK. I actually lied on one of the questions they ask you (I won't say which one so as not to seem like a degernate).

I totally beat the girl sitting next to me also. There are two cycles of the machine taking red blood cells then redepositing the plasma and she wasn't even done with her first before I was out of there.

make sure you call and find out if your blood got accepted or rejected.

they will not inform you if it got rejected, but if you have your stub with the number you can call and they give all kinds of neat information, depending on who you donated with.
