So my former landlord who we thought owed us over $1500 for our security deposit is now trying to charge us almost $2000 for various damages. If you had renters insurance, your insurance company may pay for your lawyer.
You have to check your policy, but mine with USAA has a whole page dedicated to douchebag landlord and issues.

Stephanie's former landlord wants 900 bucks from her, but she didn't have insurance and after all the shit we went through with him, there really isn't alot we can do about it.

shrug.

I have awoken from my eternal livejournal slumber! Please do not think of giving him a dime, nor walking away from your security deposit. Keep an exact copy of the letters he has sent you. Respond and retain copies. Consider certified mail. Landlords consistently try to claim you owe far greater rather than returning your deposit.

They are consistent scum and will likely back down quickly and refund the full deposit if you make them aware that you know your rights.

Check this out.

Be strong for me in honor of the 3200 dollar deposit that I let fade into oblivion at Logan St. I could have bought so much shit that would have probably been a waste of money with that money.
