Who: Takeshi Yamamoto and Chrome Dokuro
What: Chrome treating his wounds
Where: An island they stayed at after their ship exploded.
When: ~ July 17th. A day after the explosion.
Warnings: None. It might just bored you to death. You've been warned.
Yamamoto sat on the top of a grassy knoll, gazing down at the several shelters he'd put together for those of the Vongola crew that turned down staying on the submarine. He could see Colonello by one of them laughing cheerfully. It was getting dark. He figured Minatsuki was probably inside the shelter she shared with Yamamoto, preparing for bed.
It was foolish of her to offer her help to the Rain Guardian when the possibility of them being on separate islands existed; even if they were on the same one, the possibility of her not being able to locate him was also there. Chrome stopped momentarily, staring the the tepee shelter-like that came to her view. Her ears perked upon hearing familiars shout and laughters - Colonello. She picked up her pace again until she found her target, staring down at him and his wounds. "Hel.... lo."
Yamamoto glanced backwards and his face brightened as he saw the Mist Guardian standing above him. He had a shiny burn on his left cheek, and a scratch right over the bridge of his nose, and the visible part of his skin on his arms was similarly abused, "Chrome!"
Chrome gave him a curt nod. "Do you have.... the first-aid kit?" Her eyes wandered around, hoping to spot it. She was fortunate she had only suffered from minor injuries during the explosion and have already tended to her own wounds; they were covered too, under her school uniform.
"Right here," he tapped the first aid kit next to him. Yamamoto had grabbed a few things off of the boat before it had exploded. Among them were his DS Lite and its games, as well as the first aid kit to treat anyone who was injured. Well... for them to treat themselves, since he hadn't the slightest clue how.
Jirou had kept his swords safe, and Kojirou, sensitive to smoke, was hidden away in Yamamoto's shirt.
Chrome knelt down in front of the kit, taking a thorough look at what was inside. Turning back to Yamamoto (now on the same level as him), she studied his wounds before taking out the appropriate items to help him. She poured some rubbing alcohol on the patch of sterilized cotton. "You could get an infection.... if you don't treat them." Chrome shifted closer to him and began cleaning the burn on his cheek, applying very minimal pressure.
Yamamoto closed his eye, but made no other indication that it was painful. "I know, but I didn't want to bandage them up improperly. Hahaha, that might make it worse, you know? 'Cause then anaerobic bacteria could grow."
"Does it hurt...? Is it... still hot?" She asked, pointing to his wounds.
"It does hurt a bit, but burns do, don't they? Until they start to heal," he said, thinking regretfully about how they'd be a painful reminder. "But you're making them feel much better," the Rain Guardian grinned.
She gave him a small nod as she continued to tend to his cheek. Chrome would occasionally bit the inside of her cheeks at the sight she thought it would be painful.
"Ah..." She had forgotten to see if his burnt was hot or not. Mmm. It should be fine given the amount of time that has passed from the explosion. She barely spoke, only concentrating on putting the sterile bandage on him and listened when he spoke. When it was done, she moved on to next.
"Thank you," he said cheerfully, and extended his arm to allow easy access to another of his burns. "So, what made you decide to stay on the island?"
She went to the kit to retrieve more materials, not saying anything at first. "I... " She trailed off, unsure how to answer his question without leading it into another one. "I wanted... some air." She finally managed to say, never once looking at his eyes. Truth was, she needed some time away from them. It has been a while since she was always on the ship with them, even if she spent most of her time isolating herself from them in her room.
"I see," Yamamoto smiled. "It's really nice out here. It's easy to forget when you're couped up on a ship day after day."
Chrome focused on wrapping the bandages around his arms as he continued to ramble. When she was done, she turned to him, looking at the bridge of his nose.
He gazed right back into her large eyes, and then closed his own as his grin widened, "You're really good at this, Chrome!"
Chrome faltered at her movements, almost toppling over him upon hearing his words. Her cheeks were warming up and she found herself staring at the band-aid in her hand. 'I'm... really not." She was soon glad to find his eyes' closed. Leaning slightly over, she carefully placed the band-aid over the bridge of his nose, her fingers gently pressing down on the sides to make sure it'll stay in place.
"You're gentle," Yamamoto opened his eyes while her hands were still on his cheekbones, pressing down the bandage. "It's nice!"
"Ah..." She quickly withdrew her hands and began putting the supplies away.
"Thank you," he helped her place everything back into the first aid kit. "I really appreciate it!" Yamamoto stretched experimentally. The burns did feel a lot better now that they were covered.
After closing the lid to the kit, she handed it back to Yamamoto and stood up. She was done and was ready to leave.
Though Yamamoto enjoyed the company of his Mist Guardian friend--Chrome was very sweet, and he loved it when he could get her to speak through her shyness and docility--he knew that she probably had her own matters to attend to, "I'll see you later then, kay?"
Though Chrome heard him, she continued walking. For a brief moment, she did stopped at her steps with her head turned at a slight angle to ponder if she should respond him. It did not take long for her to make her mind. It was getting late and the other side of the island was quite a distance from her current location.
Yamamoto noted her brief pause and smiled. So shy. He leaned back onto the soft grass and closed his eyes.
