Apparently, according to our tennis director, muscle memory is formed after one thousand repetitions. So, the first 250 or so times you do anything, you will struggle with each component. In the range of 350-500, habit is formed. By 1000 repetitions, muscle memory is formed.

He described a beginner as being'conciously concious' of what they are doing, meaning they are thinking about every movement. At the intermediate level, we become 'consciously unconscious,' thus aware of what we need to do, but we don't have to consciously tell the body what to do. A pro or seasoned athlete is therefore able to be 'unconsciously unconcious,' just doing, not thinking.

In other words, practice makes perfect. That is how we mere humans (not crazy tennis boys) become capable with these things.
