Annual Orichalcon Cookies and Bars Poll!

Aug 28, 2011 14:46

This post is both for people who are coming to Oricon and those who just want to kibitz about their favorite cookies and bars, it's time once again for "What Should Ori* Bake?" Keep in mind that the leading criteria are: yumminess, portability, lack of messiness/stainability, variety, simplicity, originality, local/seasonal flavors, and cheapness, ( Read more... )

Yeah; the local donut shop here (one of the 10 best in the U.S., and Sat morning's breakfast) has an annual Paczki Day in the spring, where they apparently sell hundreds. The main problem with something like kolaczkis is that they are labor-intensive, which is non-ideal for these purposes; pfeffernusse are a good idea, though! (Trader Joe's has some awesome ones, but sadly, there is no TJ's in our town.

If you've never had Paczki, I highly recommend you go in the spring. They are so good - much better than regular jelly donuts. Try the prune filling - it's traditional and tastes better than it might sound.
I have a recipe for Makowiec - I've never tried it, though. I love the stuff - it almost rivals chocolate in terms of deliciousness.

Can't vote, due to non-attendance, but I have to say that next to everything else, tollhouse chocolate chippers sound a little prosaic. ;)

Sorry, should have made clear that all are welcome to vote, regardless of whether you'll be eating any of them!

Yeah, I hope it's okay that I voted! I love your cookie polls -- though they do make me jealous of the lucky folks who get to eat the cookies! :-)

(Also, the only Midwestern confection i can think of are buckeyes, though I suppose they're specific to Ohio. Still, you're close to Ohio, right?)

Ooh, good thought on buckeyes, though there's a fair amt of overlap with peanut blossoms and fudge. My main problem with buckeyes is the mess factor; either they're too cold or they're awfully smudgy.

i doubt i should vote since i don't game (unless poker in las vegas counts?), but anything with espresso or root beer or fudge sounds delicious. :)

Ooh, I can totally give you a TJ's shopping list. :)

BTW, I urge you not to bring a whole lot of extra D. clothes, as I am going to beg you to sift through a box of baby clothes and take whichever ones you want.

And we understand, believe me, about the baby-wrangling duties. What we did last year, pretty successfully, was to have signup sheets for food prep and cleanup, so that I had 3-4 helpers for each meal and each person helped out about once.

A few 6-9 month things, and then a number of 12-24 month things for later, including some adorably geeky ones. Plus, a GameMaster in Training 12-month shirt. :)
