My tube headphone amp

Sep 16, 2013 21:44

I spent some time this weekend testing a few different tube types in my Little Dot MkIII tube based headphone amp. This system is the only way I can focus these days when at work.

My work system is made up of:

  • Audioengine D1 96k DAC
  • Little Dot MkIII Tube Amp
  • AKG K702 anniversary edition headphones
  • Decibel player on my Macbook Pro
  • My music collection ( Read more... )

I'd really like to find a decent quality all-in-one (and maybe bus powered?) USB DAC + headphone amp. Even a quality Class D would be fine with me, but I want it to sound nice...

I really like my Audioengine D1. It's bus powered and needs no drivers on the Mac. It has a much bigger soundstage then the standard sound card in the MacBook Pro. It's both a DAC and a headphone amp. I used it for a long time alone before adding e tube amp.

I really envy the fact that you get to listen to music at work. I used to be able to before I became a team leader (manager), but now I feel compelled to always have my headphones off so I'm available and approachable (plus there are often sidebar conversations that I often need to catch). Music at work... what a luxury...

If I don't block out the noise around me I'm not very productive. It's kinda like trying to write code in the middle of a sports bar.

unfortunately, I'm the exact same way, which is why I miss having music so much. But then, my entire job is Inbox management now, so maybe that doesn't take the same level of concentration. :)

Well, I'm a team of 1 (me). I maintain the infrastructure (Cisco routers, switches, Call Manager and Linux servers) for a Credit Union with 8 branches. My backup is a vender if I get hit by a bus or something. And I sit in an area surrounded by 20 something girls on the phones and other IT people that like to yell from cube to cube.

We run Jabber IM in-house. I just tell everyone if you want my attention use IM me.
