Some of you known I've been on the brink of quitting my job the last couple of months. If they paid me more, I wouldn't mind a lot of the stuff I have to do, and really there are just a few things that I really don't like doing anymore. I got a tiny, wee, little raise when I got promoted to lead tech (about 64cents), and I've decided that the money isn't worth it anymore. When I got hired on as a lead there were three of us, all working out of the same inbox to handle escalations and customer requests. Then one of the leads, ended up being put on a customer service job, so there's two of us handling the same amount of work. Now the other lead is doing data entry stuff too, which apparently is sooooo vital he can't get interrupted at all, so he doesn't handle any of the maintainer provider support calls, or do any inbox work or even really answer tier 1 tech questions for 4 to 5 hours out of his shift. Plus, this guy's pretty lazy, and isn't willing to learn anything new, so right now, almost all of the T1s come to me with all of their questions, I do about 95% of the inbox work by myself and also, I've been appointed as the new trainer for our group (no raise for that apparently). The other lead and I are both horribly behind in our QAs, with no possibility of getting caught up, even though we've been told we need to by the end of the month.
I'm the number one contact with our engineers at the moment. I'm in constant communication with our liason to get the more complicated issues resolved. I'm the most efficient tech in the building. Any issue that doesn't need to go through our engineers to fix, I can fix, even when no one else can because I know how to fucking google shit and find answers. And, I've found out that other people in the company have been hired on recently at significantly more than I'm making now. As a lead, I make a flat $11 an hour. Others have been hired on at 11.75. When I was a tier one, after my 3month review I was making 10.36.
When we've had meetings before, where the other lead and I have voiced our concerns (and our boss has voiced his concerns about us), he always ends by saying that if we're not up to it, or don't want to do it anymore just let him know. I know we have two positions open for tier 1 techs. One shift is 330-midnight, and the other is like 8-430. I won't miss class, so I'd need the 8-430 shift. So my question is, I'm thinking of asking for a demotion, because I don't think the 64cents is worth the amount of hte stress the job is. Thoughts? Opinions? I have a feeling I'd be kind of shooting myself in the foot if I did that.
