VH1 made a documentary called Blood Diamonds where they took rappers to Sierra Leone so that they could understand the diamond crisis in Africa

I know what you mean. I watch TV. I look at shit online and I get so pissed off.
Somebody at the Oscars had diamond shoes. Now that's just excessive! I think of all those poor people who died for those fucking diamonds and I think of the millions of dollars for those shoes that can do so much for those who have jack shit.
diamond shoes? wow. that's disgusting. i guess what i don't understand is like, will anyone even care if the diamonds are real or not? even on an investment level, it makes no sense because antique jewelry can be way more valuable even when it's just crystal.
you are right, it's everyone's fault. but the hp hop industry does a lot to instill that feeling in yound people. that influence i think has made young european chavs, for example, walk around wearing gold chains and rings and whatever.
you're right and they do need to be confronted. at the same time, VH1 is owned by MTV; if they have such a problem with it they need to stop airing those videos. but that's never going to happen.
it's so embarrassing how it's seeped into other countries!
of course, but it's all a matter of who see each channel. they adapt the content to each end of the market. it desn't matter if they're being hypocritical or not. only the money matters. sometimes i think we should all just stop watching tv.
it makes me so paranoid. when i watch tv it's almost like..i'm testing myself. i'm too cynical to take it seriously and it amazes me how many people do.
80% of the world's diamonds are used as bort (industrial abrasives) anyways. Consumers buying or not buying retailed diamonds doesn't make a lick of difference in the big picture.
I actually don't have a problem with materialism. Possessions are a quantifiable, objective standard of measuring a life. I just don't have a problem with it.
That was really, really well written though, and you made a lot of good points.
See, I forgot all about that! Thank-you for reminding me.
I used to be very anti-materialism until I realized that it's impossible. Just because I don't buy jewelry or expensive clothes...everyone uses some form of external validation.
