"Jason," she says, pausing in her analysis and turning to face him, "I'm glad you made it. I was afraid you might've gotten held up, depending on what route you took. They've had to close a few of the main arterial roads leading into downtown after... after what happened this afternoon."
Hayley's expression is worried, and she looks like she's spent the past few hours, or more, under a considerable amount of stress and strain.
"I've already taken the kids home; under the circumstances, they may actually be safer there than they would be here."

There's annoyance and upset in his face, but there's also an apologetic look in his eyes. He knows he's being unreasonable, but when you're as driven out of your mind by worry as he is? Well, there's really no other choice, is there.

"Fine," she says, standing up. "You want elaboration? Either Mesogog's done something to Tommy's head, or the man's gone completely insane. Do you want to start placing wagers as to which it might be? My money's on the former, personally."

It's sort of like the news has split his mind into ten different tracks and it's trying to run all the gauntlets at once, but he has to keep himself focused on this, without getting caught up in the upset. For Tommy's sake.
