Today hasn't been the best of days for one Jason Scott. There's not necessarily any reason for it - not one he could identify at first, really. He's spent most of the day with a really bad feeling about things, one that's impacted most of what he's done all day. He woke up too early, he's performed badly at work, he's just been completely off ( Read more... )

The Lair is unusually dark, the only active lighting being the bank over the computer terminals and a few of the wall sconces. It's also nearly deserted; the only occupant is the red-head seated before the monitors, poring over video footage and other, less immediately identifiable data.

"Jason," she says, pausing in her analysis and turning to face him, "I'm glad you made it. I was afraid you might've gotten held up, depending on what route you took. They've had to close a few of the main arterial roads leading into downtown after... after what happened this afternoon."

Hayley's expression is worried, and she looks like she's spent the past few hours, or more, under a considerable amount of stress and strain.

"I've already taken the kids home; under the circumstances, they may actually be safer there than they would be here."

"Okay, so we're going for cryptic," Jason says as he hits the bottom step, and stands there with his arms crossed. "Could we elaborate a little more, please?"

There's annoyance and upset in his face, but there's also an apologetic look in his eyes. He knows he's being unreasonable, but when you're as driven out of your mind by worry as he is? Well, there's really no other choice, is there.

Unfortunately for Jason, Hayley's in no mood to put up with snarkiness. She can understand worry, but she's had a sufficiently bad day that her already low tolerance for bitchiness is completely shot.

"Fine," she says, standing up. "You want elaboration? Either Mesogog's done something to Tommy's head, or the man's gone completely insane. Do you want to start placing wagers as to which it might be? My money's on the former, personally."

"What?" Jason's face registers shock at that and then blanks out as he lets himself sink down, sitting his ass right down on the steps. "What has he done, exactly? What happened this afternoon?" Details, details, keep yourself calm and get the details, Scott. He can do this. It's necessary.

It's sort of like the news has split his mind into ten different tracks and it's trying to run all the gauntlets at once, but he has to keep himself focused on this, without getting caught up in the upset. For Tommy's sake.
