♦ - Each diamond represents how much Jack likes a person. One person is someone that Jack has met and he finds likable enough. At three they are a friend and at five, best friends.
♠ - Each spade is how much a person is like family and only happens to those who have been his friend for some time. A full five spades is reserved for actual family.
◊ - The empty diamond represents dislike. Just one diamond is a mild annoyance, but five represents an absolute hatred for the person.
♥ - The heart is reserved for those Jack has an attraction to. Usually one heart represents that Jack has noticed a girl is attractive, three represents an actual interest. At five, Jack is in love.
♪ - One of these means Jack has scored with said lady.
■□□□□□□□□□ - The meter represents how firm Jack's opinion of someone is. One block effectively represents his first impression and it will fill the more he gets to know someone. Rarely it will go down when someone does something unexpected and rattles his opinion on someone.
