When I was working on the Kira investigation, I heard something about "the eyes" in a message containing references to Shinigami. At the time, it unnerved me greatly, in part because it reminded me of... something.

I also witnessed someone making the deal for the eyes... After all this, it was easy to deduce that people with the "eyes" only needed a face to kill, whereas people without the "eyes" needed a face and a name. I'm not sure what you mean about "lifespans", though. You've mentioned it before, but I wasn't aware of this aspect... I think it is likely the same sort of ability, but I would have to see proof before I believe such a claim.

I am vulnerable to believing such a thing, since I want Light to be guilty of what I suspect him of. Recognizing this, I cannot readily accept what you tell me on faith alone.
