Notes: Well, this one took a long time to get out, unfortunately. I'd been struggling to figure out where to go with this scene, and after awhile I just threw up my hands and decided that the very next piece that came out would be the official installment. So here we go!
-------
Swimming through red layers of his psyche, Daryene stumbled blindly through the living room of his best friend's lover. Tripping over a lump of coral-hued coffee table, the ebony-haired priest catapulted into the sea-wall, floating desperately in the arms of the barely buoyant Luku.
Soothing words fought the rush curling about his ears, and he pushed away the numbed fingers of his lover, surging against the tide, passing the slumping form of a bald inhabitant, and into the frame of the predator's darkened cave.
He'd followed Annah's cries, latching onto her tide pool of requests and pleas and speeding as fast as his legs could take him. The echoes had started when they'd been less than a mile away, and had only served to clog his skull the longer they'd thrummed inside him.
Pictures assaulted his watering eyes as he hung in the bedroom's frame. Ysilde was shivering against the bed, clutching a draining whirlpool-shaped gouge in his cheek, keening something that didn't translate inside Daryene's skull.
Celya's red hair joined the bath of sanguine juice she was marinating in, while deeper, wrestling in the vapid depths, was the creature who'd been hissing at the empty void of Daryene's memory. The one who was hollow-- deathly silent, both before and now, as he watched her contort his apprentice's neck into impossible angles, drop her ragged corpse, and plummet from the window into the inky caverns below.
Inarticulate chokes preceded his stumbling, as he cut towards the body of the little girl in his care. Crashing to his knees, Daryene's pale skin struggled to hear a pulse through the humming in his ears. Daryene brushed away the pale hands of his lover, cradling his limp apprentice nearer, and ignoring the fact that when he touched her cheeks, no memories flooded to claim him.
