... so I gave into my compulsion to write otaku!Jae. This is going to be a series of short fics with Yunho dealing with the various parts of preparing for, and then participating in a con.
^^; if anyone comes up with a better title, do let me know. I really suck at titles. And is otaku usually written in katakana or hiragana? O_o
Title: オタクじゃないよ!
Pairings: YunJae
Form: Series, 1/?
Genre: Crack
Words: 570
Summary: Yunho finds out the perils of otakus, cosplaying and fangirls.
Warnings: May poke fun at otaku, fangirls and anime cons. ^^;
He hadn’t known what he was getting himself into. That was what it all came down to.
Honestly, while moving in with his boyfriend was simultaneously exciting and very daunting, Yunho had always known there would be problems. Well, maybe not problems per se, but friction at least. Except… well, he’d thought it would be more along the lines of clashing levels of cleanliness. Different opinions about appropriate bed times and what ‘sleeping in’ meant. Stupid things like whose turn it was to clean the bathroom, or to buy groceries. The normal sort of stuff.
He was not, however, prepared for this.
He stared mournfully down at the printed pieces of paper laid out on the dinner table before him, and pouted to himself.
The love of his life wandered around the room, completely oblivious (deliberately or not) to his pain, talking rapidly on the phone to his best friend, Yoochun.
“Yeah, I know I said that! But seriously, I can do Kaname some other time.” Jaejoong was saying, his face screwed up a little as he argued. He flapped his hand a little in frustration, and walked across the other side of the room.
Yunho huffed and propped his face up with a fist, staring down at the pictures again. They were mocking him, he knew it. He glared at them.
He enjoyed anime, he did. He liked snuggling up with Jae on the couch and watching some of the shows. He found One Piece funny and enjoyed Death Note even if it was morbid and twisted. He’d always known that Jaejoong was far more enthusiastic about them then he was, but he hadn’t quite realised the extent of Jae’s love of anime until they’d moved in together and he'd seen the sheer amount of figurines, DVDs, posters and other random bits and pieces Jae had stuffed their apartment with.
After hearing a very long, in-depth conversation between Jaejoong and Yoochun one night, all focused on the psyche of Ohba’s Shinigamis, Yunho briefly wondered if Jaejoong hadn’t previously been playing down his all-encompassing love of anime in order not to scare him off or something. Because now Jae had him securely wrapped around his little finger, Yunho was seeing a whole new side to Jaejoong.
He believed the correct term to describe his boyfriend was ‘otaku’.
“No... But Yunho seriously agreed to come, so I think it would be perfect.”
… ‘agreed’. Yunho pouted harder. He thought ‘agreed’ was a bit of a stretch. He hadn’t so much ‘agreed’ as been suckered into it by Jaejoong’s twisty words and flare for timing. The words ‘Yeah, sure’, were out of his mouth before he even realised what he was agreeing to, and then Jaejoong’s utter excitement meant that there was no way he could take it back now. Not without the prospect of sleeping on the couch for at least a month. And they’d just moved in together, damnit.
Besides, the last time he checked, ‘agreeing’ to go to a con with Jae did not equal agreeing to dress up in weird clothes and wear a wig.
“I know it’s old! But everyone knows it. Besides, don’t you think I’d make a dashing
Nuriko? And if I’m Nuriko, then who else would Yunho be if not
Hotohori?”
Yunho took one last glance at the picture of the feminine-looking so-called ‘emperor’ and thunked his head down on the table in defeat.
Note: Nuriko and Hotohori are from the manga/anime Fushigi Yuugi, which was the first anime I ever watched. It's like, the classic shojo anime with a freaking convoluted plot, full of teen angst, lost love etc. If you've never heard of it, you can read about it
here. Nuriko is a GUY. He's a very pretty one, who is first introduced as a girl in the story because he's masquerading as his sister Korin in the Emperor's harem. He is, cannonically, in love with Hotohori, who is the Emperor.
... When this story occured to me, it seemed to automatically come to mind that Jae would play Nuriko. I think it's because there was a girl at the con I went to that was
cosplaying him. (picture of Nuriko cosplay by bubbys)
