My holiday sentiments exactly. Unless I misunderstood, it's an increase of 20% in the rate of interest - an amount by itself that once sent loan sharks to jail - but it's actually a 300% increase over your present rate. Also, the 10% credit is a scam. They have no obligation to post your payment until it's late, even if you send it to them by Certified Mail. It's not when they receive it, since a check is only a promise to pay, but when they post it that determines timely payment. Unless they sign a cash receipt. For the time being, cash is still money. Our enlightened government has refused to deal with the problem you just encountered. The recently failed banks are now showing healthy profits. That's good for America, right? Well, it turns out that the lion's share of increased bank revenues is now coming from unilateral rate increases and exorbitantly increased fines and penalties. In other words, the banks are becoming successful again by extorting their customers. This is actually an approved tactic, believe it or not. The ( ... )

If you get the opportunity why don't you write a letter to your attorney general. I know our attorney general is going after the credit card companies who use these bad practices.

Citibank tangaloor November 23 2009, 19:10:21 UTC
Yes they did the same to me as well and I closed my accounts also. Sears followed shortly after as they are associated with Citibank. Closed that one also. Now to get them paid off and be rid of them for good!

I have been a perfect customer to citibank for 30 years and have perfect credit. I borrowed 20,000 for remodel of house at 2.99 interest rate. Now they sent me an increase to 29% (stealing) on past debt. So I took the "opt out" plan, with the opt out plan you do not get to keep your old interest rate and pay off your debt, Citibank and other a-hole cards are saying oh, you had a promotional rate and so your opt out rate will really be 18%, even though I've never been over 6% with them in 30 years. So I said, oh, I see, so I've had a promotional rate for 30 years with you and they said yep. They are such assholes and have figured out how to get around all the new laws already and rip people off. I can't believe we have paid to bail these people out...I have lost all respect for Citibank and will dump them totally soon as I can.

disputed payment anonymous December 27 2009, 01:36:37 UTC
I disputed a payment with citi and was sent forms which I filled and returned, after filling form three different times and returning priority mail with delivery confirmation I was told since I had not supplied them the required information they were paying the scam site in Panama, an organization that is being sued by Google and attorney generals of another state. I closed my account and am searching for another mortgage company to refinance.
