This is possibly what you mean by the fairy-tale thing, but

probably because it is more convenient and blood-pressure-lowering to be vicariously happy through these people than rage and fight the power.

TBH I actually hate the way our media is focusing on it because I am seriously sitting here saying "WE DIDN'T WANT THIS. WE HAD A WAR OVER GETTING RID OF THEM. WHY DO YOU WANT US TO HAVE SOMETHING COMPARABLE ARE YOU CRAZY?! I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE MONARCHY WE SAID FUCK YOU TO."

but i can't even begin to imagine what it must be like over there and have to experience the rage regarding your taxes paying for this and ugh maybe you should start a revolution of your own

a lot of americans think all our founding fathers were GOD-FEARIN PROPER CHRISTIAN MEN (a good chunk were pretty into deism)

so really

that should tell you something about how good our knowledge of our own basic principles is. :|

Basically, it's times like these that I'm glad the only TV news I watch is The Daily Show and Colbert Report.
