... You know, I honestly did not believe I would be alive to see this. O_O
When they did the most recent restoration, the Murnau people were saying how they hoped, possibly against all reason, that someday someone was going to trip over a pile of film cans in, I don't know, some government media archive in Eastern Europe or Mosfilm and the film would be complete, but -Buenos Aires-?!
They're saying that the Blu-Ray release in 2009 will include the BA footage, but that sounds to me a little ambitious. In the extras on the 2002 release, the film restorer guy is talking about the different methods of restoring damaged film stock. And he goes over all these nifty computer algorithms and whatnot, and then comes to the last resort, which was to /go over every single frame of the film on a computer and manually remove each and every artifact BY HAND/. ... And then he says, and well, the last method is the one we used. I mean, of course. Why wouldn't he! It's METROPOLIS.
And also as a footnote they're saying at Chud.com that this gives
