So I’ve been re-reading and trolling through my ill-maintained bookmarks from the last 10 years of my fic reading life, trying to figure out what I want to rec, and what I wish I could pretend I never liked in the first place.

Oh, wow! That's a blast from the past! Yes, I used to be a huge fan of Highlander as well and -- surprise, surprise -- Methos was my favourite character. Actually, I'm surprised I haven't gone looking for any Highlander fic recently as I've been revisiting a number of old fandoms. Anywaaaaaaay, I know exactly what you mean about the Cassandra fic. I remember coming across such stories myself. I can see why they enrage you so much. While I know how hard it is to swallow Methos' extremely dark past, I think it's inexcusable to try to justify his behaviour towards Cassandra or turn her into a psycho villain to make Methos look better.

Unfortunately, I've seen this trend in other fandoms, especially if a female character seems like a threat to a popular slash couple. I've actually been guilty of it myself with at least one story, though, in my defence, the fic was a parody and this female character's actions were needed to explain the way another character had been acting. It did sort of stem from canon and...Okay, there's really no
