I do know who you mean, but I was thinking of someone else--another of the same breed. The guy I had in mind once solemnly announced that he would never cast the pearl of his novel before the swine that could publish the likes of Eragon or Twilight. And I think he might have meant it, since from what I've seen, he has a gift for cutting off his nose to spite his face.
Have you ever seen Teresa Nielsen Hayden's Slushkiller? If not, I think you would enjoy it. For all that it's about rejection, it's actually quite encouraging, because it suggests that if you can write coherently, are on good terms with the muse of language, and have "a compelling story, compellingly told," you are ahead of 95 to 99 percent of the would-be authors out there, and someone will publish you--a real publisher, not PublishAmerica
