Have you cross-posted this to snapedom? I suggest it, it would be nice to get your voice in.
I'm just grateful that whatever JKR thinks about Snape, he came out of DH looking very good.
What really does bug me most these days is not really JKR's interview words about Snape, but her bizarre attitude toward the Marauders. In DH, we do have Harry taking a good long look at Sirius, and we also have Remus' insecurity manifesting itself in perhaps the worst way it could, but I'm somehow not sure if Jo even understands what these things mean to judge by her interview comments. Then place those quotes next to her words about Snape and it makes no sense considering what's in the books.
But anyway, you're right that it really doesn't matter. I think the problem is that people expect her to tell us everything, and in depth, but she can't do that in interviews, so she only scratches the surface of her own analyses by giving a basic view of her opinion.
The way I see it is everyone will always have their view of Snape regardless of what JKR says. There are a couple moments in the books where I thought Snape was a bit mean to Harry. Of course once we get the full backstory of him in DH it is easy to understand why he was the way he was. Everything oughta be taken into account. Not necesarily as an excuse but more of an understanding of his character. I appreciate complex characters. They are much more realistic

Yeah, I don't really feel like responding at snapedom because I liked DH and I liked how Snape was portrayed in it. Snape continued to sacrifice, just as he had done all along, as you said. There weren't really any situations in which it would have made sense for him to be sarcastic. I do sympathize with peoples' feelings that a confrontation between Harry and Snape was missing, but seeing Snape memories in the Pensieve and Harry vindicating Snape in front of everyone were things I wasn't expecting and, I felt, made up for the lack of confrontation

He, as always, did what he had to do, took the risks unflinchingly, and sacrificed in the name of Harry Potter surviving. That's right, and until I read JKR's remarks, I thought there was a theme of day-to-day coping with life being heroic. Molly Weasley is the best example of that, and JKR has mentioned her various times since DH came out
