Fixed the parking brake on the Mercedes today. It wasn't so much broken as it was massively out of adjustment -- the pedal would go straight to the floor without affecting the rear wheels at all ( Read more... )

Does your car have rear drum brakes? A lot of times with drum brakes the parking brake just actuates the regular brake shoes, so whatever self-adjusting features are built into those also make sure the parking brake stays adjusted at each wheel.

Then again, Mercedes has a way of never using one part if there's a way to use three, so... ;)

Mostly unrelatedly... I have a 1986 Volvo 240 DL that is likely heading for the scrapyard this summer. It has a Sony XR-2300 stereo in it, and I suddenly had the strange idea that you might be interested in such a device, since you seem to like old electronic stuff. It doesn't work at the moment, but that may be an electrical issue with the car. If you're interested, I could probably mail it to you. I'd ask for the price of cheapest possible shipping if you got it working, or half that if you couldn't.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner; this kinda got lost in the shuffle in my inbox. I don't really have a use for that deck. Thanks, though!

Coincidentally I had an '86 240 DL wagon years ago. Manual four-speed plus overdrive. Loved that car, but it eventually rotted out so badly I sold it for parts.
