No Silicone heaven? Where would all of the calculators go?

Apologies for the radio silence recently dear, erm, well whatever the hell you lot are. Readers or listeners or subscribers. Who knows? I was recently asked to justify what a LiveJournal is to people I know IRL and I found I couldn't without using the words 'community' or, indeed, 'trolling'. I'm not sure what I'm doing but it might be shouting at ( Read more... )

Have you tried turning it off and turning it on again?

This is why I love the internet.

Without the internet I'd have to actually find someone who had a computer that was falling over, gauge that they knew what they were doing with it, and then make a really patronising comment about it.

The internet brings these opportunities to me.

FUCK YEAH, TECHNOLOGY!

Oh, and Google Chrome is fine but it's really greedy in the area of virtual memory, particularly when you're viewing images or Flash, which is most of the fun parts of the internet.

The only serious thing of which I can think is to move as much as possible to an external drive, back up everything you want to keep, and then do a full system restore. Use the system with as little as possible actually on the laptop and as much as possible on an external storage device.

Your processor will be doing its best to run which will mean that it wants lots of clean hard drive space to help it out. Sadly laptops only have a certain life to them before the very nature of making the circuits get that hot buggers them up completely.

If a full restore seems too much then defragging it might help a bit... but only a bit. I suspect a future entry along the lines of the Dead Laptop Sketch is in the offing.

Although I suspect that this contains very little that is new to you. God luck keeping it chugging along.

You have my sympathies. Sauce is also struggling. The fan currently sounds like Darth Vader stuck in a wind tunnel having a panic attack.

I've had him for five years though...longer than any other laptop. I just can't bring myself to admit that it's time to shut him down for good and call it a day. It's not just that I can't afford to replace him, it's that I don't want to. We had some good times despite Vista...and it would just be a form of torture to invest more money in getting a new battery and validating 7 again when his circuitry is one more open tab away from total meltdown. Not to mention that the screen is so burned out that vibrant colour is a thing of mere memory and viewing anything on my netbook requires the use of sunglasses as a result.

Hope you're able to salvage yours in some way or form...

Apropos of nothing that picture is cute.

No "lol" or other such exaggerated internet acronymity here; you made me smile.

Thank you.

Nonsense, silliness, and play are to be encouraged if people are to continue with their whimsy.

A life with nothing happening purely for the sake of happening is a life far less rich.
