There's something I need to ask you, and if it's a conflict of interest with you being Bruce's lawyer I understand. He wants me to sign some papers regarding OsCorp and to put distance between himself and me. His reasoning is that I don't need to drag my reputation down with him. It's bullshit, in my opinion, and I won't sign the papers. Because to ( Read more... )

It would be damaging, yes. He doesn't--as though I need to tell you, of all people, this--he doesn't have many friends, his reputation was less than sterling before he was charged with murder, and by distancing yourself from him you will be sending the message that you believe he's guilty.

With that said, it's your decision. Not Bruce's, not mine--yours. If your priority is protecting your business interests, I'd speak to a lawyer--a lawyer who isn't me--about it. But if you do want to support him, well, "we could use you" is an understatement.

How're you holding up?

I don't believe he's guilty. He doesn't seem to be concerned that to most everyone else he looks guilty. I don't understand why he's not fighting back. It's a disservice to Vesper not to defend himself. Her real killer is out there.

My business interests have never been my priority. Not over my family and friends especially. I'm not signing those papers, and I know you won't hold back if, no when, they call me for a witness of the prosecution. I'm glad you're his lawyer.

I'm worried about him.

I'm afraid I don't have much to offer in the way of comfort. He's...withdrawn most days. Coaxing anything out of him...

Thank you, Harry, for your loyalty. I don't think he likes or knows how to rely on people who aren't Alfred. And please don't drive yourself to distraction thinking you could be doing more. You're doing plenty as is.

Yes, I know how he is. He's frustrating and he doesn't like to have to depend on anyone. Except Alfred.

If anyone can get him out of this, it's you. Thanks, Alan.
