Walking home from school one day, Kamio finds a mix cd discarded on the sidewalk. The case is unmarked, and the cd itself simply says "why don't you...", as if inviting Kamio to listen to it. He runs home as fast as he can, and he puts it into his stereo.
Laying on his back and soaking in the soft opening chords, Kamio thinks, this is the kind of mix that you play while looking at the stars at midnight in the park with someone you love.
That night, Kamio calls Shinji, and the go to the park and look at the stars at midnight. Shinji wonders how Kamio got ahold of the mix he'd been planning to give him.
