the same thing happend to me on the passenger side on the way to the mall one day.. apparantly its a "thing" that happens. and when i went to another vw dealership after i got it fixed they asked me if i had the other window done too because eventually that one would do it too..

As Fr00tie said, it's a known issue. The driver side went south on me the morning of a drive out to Disney. I was still under 24k miles so no cost. Then the passenger's side went out on the night of returning from a St. Augustine trip. At that point, I took $200 with me to VW, because I was at 55k and figured it wouldn't be covered. Even so, there was no charge because it was a "known problem". Just something about 4th gen watercooled VWs overall since you're in a Jetta and I'm in a New Beetle- and our cars are from two different countries of construction.

kinda screwy.. the tech said that there are plastic clips in there that break all the time (that's what the initial sound we heard was).. he replaced both front clips with metal (so the passenger shouldn't have the same treatment).. makes ya wonder how/why that got put into so many cars!
