oh jacksonville..

how bad is thee? let me count the ways...
  1. Jacksonville's original name was Cowford, a Timucuan Indian word meaning "hot, flat boring place by the river."
  2. Jacksonville: Conveniently located near South Georgia.
  3. Yes, we're small. But we are the second biggest city in the country with a "ville" in its name, behind only Hooterville, home to Uncle Joe ( Read more... )

I was so going to post the one about the saint john's flowing north or the one about the hurricanes avoiding us. those were my favs.

a variant of this list appeared in today's t-u.

even the wall street journal had an artilce yesterday about the security headaches (due to the river, which was apparently one of the major draws for the city to host the super bowl).

Ok. the sad part is that was Jacksonville's OWN paper writing that story. i've given up on defending, the verbal assault is just too intense.

Pete, lets say just hypothetically...one wanted to leave Jacksonville one day. to move to say...Brooklyn or some other boro/borough in ny.
hypothetically, how difficult is the finding an apt/job process?

hypothetically.

making fun of jax is what people do there! the lj community is called 'why does jax suck' for chrissakes! :)

moving to nyc.. finding an apartment.. it totally depends on where. craiglist.org is a huge resource, and if you're looking to room with someone, there are tons of roommate wanted ads. for finding a place, there's also a ton of listings on there too. if you find a broker, they can help you, but they will generally charge 10% of a year's rent for their services. there are no-fee brokers, but generally not in manhattan. that's what we ended up doing (working with a no-fee broker.. we paid him 10% of a month's rent for helping us, not bad at all).

.. for finding a job.. really can't say, as i haven't had to look. craigslist is also a good resource for that. perhaps keep an eye on it for a bit and see how things look for whatever industry you want to work in.
