I have spent the majority of my life in everything Japanese. I have been studing the Japanese language since I was 10. I am 41 now. Last year for my 40th birthday, I spent 3 weeks in Ireland. Just me and a rental car. I had a "fekin grand" time. When I arrived I felt like I had come home. After 3 weeks I did not want to leave. When I got back to the US I felt as if I had wasted the last 30 years of my life. It should have been Gaelic all along, not Japanese. I'm better now, I don't think it was a waste. Have a grand time in Scotland. Take a ton of pictures!
In truth, I feel much the same. The Japanese, while possessed of an incredibly interesting language with amazing syntax and history, are a bit too...completely fucking psycho for me. Gaelic is also amazing, and as far as the people and the environment, I felt far more vibrant and connected in Scotland than I ever did in Japan.
