What I’ve Just Finished Reading

Progress on the Unread Book Club! I finished reading The Collected Raffles, which turns out to be only the first three Raffles books, but fortuitously it turns out that the fourth is available freeeeeeeee on Kindle so of course I shall read that. I find these books awfully charming.

a book called Touring America by Automobile in the 1920s, which is a published diary about family road trips to the National Parks in the 1920s.

I really need to finish reading Raffles. And I hope the farm works its magic on Marly's dad. :(

I'm glad someone else finds the whole 1920s road trip thing as enchanting as I do. Just... road trips!

The book is Miracles on Maple Hill and not Misery on Maple Hill, so I think probably everything will come out all right. But we shall see!

Still slogging through The Red Queen.

Good luck. It is possibly a book I would take to a desert island, just because that is a circumstance in which I could expect myself to finish it.

My new theory is that the editor read the first five pages or so, gave up, and said "Let's go ahead and print it! It doesn't matter if it's dreck, it will make a million bucks!"

It would certainly explain why the copy-editing is so bad.

Oh dear, even the copy-editing is terrible?

It's pretty bad. Missing periods, quotation marks, a few places where something that's clearly a typo slipped through. Also, memorably, a place where Dameon asks a question and then answers himself, in such a way that it's obvious there were supposed to be two characters speaking but somehow both quotes got attributed to one.
